Dear Mom and Dad,
I am in Montgomery, Alabama finally. This place is horrible! Thankfully I am not the one that you have to worry about though. The WHOLE city is segregated! Also, there are only black and white people. It is almost like the white people are royalty and all the rest are unworthy. If someone is walking by them they have to get out of the way. I feel so sorry for all of those poor people being mistreated. Thankfully I have gotten to meet some of the people that want to change this. They have let me stay at their house while I stay here. Their names are Martin Luther King Junior and Rosa Parks. Dr. King is one of the leaders while Rosa is a secretary for their group. Oh I forgot to tell you, they have their own group to fight the ongoing racism. I have decided to work with Rosa Parks as a secretary so the police won’t notice me as much just in case something goes wrong. Even though I am white ill still get into the same amount of trouble any of these black people would. There have been countless and pointless murders going unnoticed. The murderers have the dumbest reasons for killing! One young boy got beat up and shot just for flirting with another white girl. Anyways Martin Luther King and Rosa Parks’ group are on their way to stop these kinds of things. Hopefully the North will become aware of this evil Southern brutality. Once I get back home I plan on tell everyone I know as well as the media about the going ons here. If you could also tell everyone that I am safe it would make me feel a lot better to. OH, and don’t forget to tell your friends what is going here too! I should be coming home in a couple of months unless I get into trouble then I will come home right away. Everyone is treating me nicely so far so don’t worry. I’ll write to you next week!
