Little Rock Nine

I wake up everyday
Just to get ready for a new school day
I am filled with fear
Thinking of the crowds that wont cheer
My mom told me ill be late for school
So I gathered up my books
And left to school

When I got outside
My friends were right by my side
Smiling and waiting for me to get on
I sat by earnest green
The most educated in our negro society
He told me not to be afraid
Of the white men that retaliate
The army men looked so serious and proud
Holding their machine guns and rounds
It gave me a bit of hope
That I will still be able to float

Almost arriving to school
You can already see the white men’s plague
Gathering around just to see this day
We found a side entrance that led the way
To our educational path
That stood in our way

I never knew
That dreams do come true
Of attending little rock high school
The reporters just announced
The little rock nine is now inside
If we can get through today
Nothing will ever get in our way
