It all started at a high school...

little rock nine students
Nine students of Little Rock Central High School were given the priviledge to be the first African American students into an all-white high school after President Eisenhower approved a new Civil Rights Law. The students were organized by Daisy Bates, coordinator of the integration in Arkansas, who walked into the school with white students calling them names and treated them disrespectfully onto the school grounds. Unfortunately for these students, the gate to the school itself was guarded by the National Guard of Arkansas sent there by Governor Faubus himself. As weeks led on, "the Nine" as they were called, were struggling to get into the school everyday. It was then that President Eisenhower sent the 101 Airborne Division team to ensure that these African American students got into the school safely. These students were also issued a personal guard to make sure they didn't get hurt during and after school hours.
